Our Room at Iberostar Laguna Azul Resort, Varadero Beach, Cuba

Our Room at Iberostar Laguna Azul Resort, Varadero Beach, Cuba

Our Room at Iberostar Laguna Azul Beach Resort, Varadero Beach, Cuba.
The room we had at the Iberostar Laguna Azul Beach Resort in Varadero Cuba was, from what I could tell, a fairly standard room for the beach resort, and although it wasn’t palatial it was certainly roomy and open. With two double beds, a sitting area, a desk, a hutch with a television and a mini fridge and a good sized bathroom, our room at the Iberostar Laguna Azul beach resort was clean and had everything we needed. In fact it had much more that we need as the Iberostar Laguna Azul beach resort is located on the beautiful Beach of Varadero and so, other than to sleep and get showered and changed we didn’t spend much time in the room. Athough the Iberostar Laguna Azul beach resort is fairly large nothing is very far away, the beach and the restaurants are all just a quick walk and there are a number of pools so you can easily get to one from your room for a quick swim first thing in the morning. The Staff at the Iberostar Laguna Azul beach resort were very courteous and friendly and cleaned and maintained our room daily. The Iberostar Laguna Azul Beach Resort in Varadero Cuba is beautiful and our room offered us a nice comfortable place to retire to after our day of fun and Cuban sun on Varadero Beach.

For our honeymoon we decided to visit Cuba together for the first time to relax at an all inclusive resort at Cayo Santa Maria with Air Canada Vacations.

Samuel’s blog: http://nomadicsamuel.com
Audrey’s blog: http://thatbackpacker.com

In every sense this was our vacation from travel as we completely went offline. As online workers, it was refreshing knowing we had no access to the internet and that our only immediate concern was to relax and have fun.

We spent the majority of our week long stay enjoying the beach. If we weren’t splashing and riding waves in the turquoise water we were keeping cool under a sun umbrella or gazebo. Our biggest concern of the day was deciding what to wear as all of our food and drinks were included for the entire week. Whether we wanted to order a pizza at 3 pm or have a buffet lunch or dinner was entirely up to us.

Moreover, we had the opportunity to drink all kinds of delicious nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages such as Pina Colada, Cuba Libre, Cuban Rum, Bucanero, Cerveza Cristal, TuKola Ciego Montero, Cristal Beer, Cuban Beer and Rum and Coke.

On afternoons that weren’t spent at the beach, we often were hanging out at the pool participating in aqua aerobics, yoga, tai chi or life sized chess.

The few times we set our alarms in the morning, we were rewarded with spectacular sunrises and in the evening brilliant sunsets.

There was also a small village at the perimeter of our resort where we could pick up Cuba souvenirs such as Cuban cigars and Cuban paintings.

For nighttime entertainment we enjoyed live Cuban music and dance performances including Cha-cha, Mambo, Rumba and Salsa.

The week flew by and this is the type of Cuban vacation I’ve always dreamed off. If we reach a point where we feel stressed out or in need of a digital detox we’ll certainly considering coming back to Cuba again.

Our honeymoon in Cuba: Cuba vacation in Cayo Santa Maria

This week Sam and I are in Cuba on our honeymoon. Woo! So yeah, we’re going to be spending a full week here at an all inclusive. We are staying in Cayo Santa Maria and we are going to be showing you what it is like to just take a week off, relax and not really travel.

I think it is beach time.

After a year and a half of round the world travels, we wanted our honeymoon to be very relaxed and easy going. This was very unlike us, but we didn’t plan any side trips or run around touring attractions. Our trip to Cuba was all about enjoying the beach, drinking pina coladas, and cooling off in the pool. The Caribbean is home to some spectacular beaches, but we think Cuba may have the best of them all!

So it is time to play life sized chess. I think I can probably beat Sam.

So how was that easy victory of yours? Huh? Let’s count how many pieces I have left. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven. And I only have my King. That is so rude. You didn’t let your new bride win. Domination. Domination.

Cuban singing, dancing and performing.

The most work we did was set the alarm clock to go catch a beach sunrise.

One of the best part of being at an all inclusive resort is the endless supply of drinks.

Rum and coke.

Pina Colada.

Bucanero.

Cola Ciego Montero

Cristal

So it must be over forty degrees today and the sea is a bit choppy so it is a perfect day for the pool.

The pool was the heart of the action. By 10 am the crowd had descended for an endless flow of rum. There were also lots of fun activities like water aerobics to keep everyone entertained.

While we didn’t leave the resort, we did make some time to pick up a few souvenirs to take back home. Cuban rum, anyone?

And aside from that, we just spent more time at the beach! The waters were so calm and inviting, that we often spent the whole day there just reading book and enjoying the beauty of it all.

And that’s a little taste of our Cuban honeymoon. If you’re looking for a relaxed sun destination, then Cuba won’t disappoint!

Cayo Santa María

This is part of our Travel in Cuba series. We’re making a series of videos showcasing Cuban culture, Cuban arts, Cuban foods, Cuban religion and Cuban people.

Varadero is foremost a tourist resort town, boasting more than 20 km of white sandy beaches. The first tourists visited Varadero as early as the 1870s, and for years it was considered an elite resort. In 1910 the annual rowing regatta was started; five years later the first hotel, named Varadero and later Club Nautico, was built. Tourism grew in the early 1930s as Irénée du Pont Nemours, an American millionaire, built his estate on the peninsula. Many famous and infamous people stayed in Varadero, for example Al Capone. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, many mansions were expropriated from their rich owners. These mansions soon became museums. As a symbol of the new integrated tourism for Cubans and foreign visitors of all social classes, the Park of the 8000 Cubicles (Parque de las 8000 Taquillas) was built in 1960 Between the 1960s and 1980s Varadero transformed itself into a cultural centre. During those years the central park (8000 Taquillas) (located between 44th and 46th Street) saw countless concerts, festivals and sporting events. The 1990s brought the start of another hotel building campaign, mostly in the 4-star and 5-star segment. There are also cultural, historical and environmental attractions in the vicinity, such as the cities of Matanzas and Cárdenas, the Zapata Peninsula and the resort of San Miguel de los Baños. Varadero, which is a free port, also possesses facilities for scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, yachting and other water sports.
Varadero receives more than 1 million tourists annually.Varadero is primarily visited by European and Canadian tourists.

GoPro Fun in the Sun Iberostar Laguna Azul Varadero Beach Cuba
Just as the title would suggest, I used my GoPro to film my friends kids having Fun in the Sun at the Iberostar Laguna Azul Resort on Varadero Beach. It was a beautiful day at Varadero Beach and the waves were wavy enough to make things fun. And as you can see fun was definitely had.

The Iberostar Laguna Azul Beach Resort is located on a beautiful stretch of Vardero Beach, about 10 miles from the city centre of Varadero Cuba and about 25 miles or a 30 minute drive from Varadero Airport. There are 814 spacious hotel rooms at the Iberostar Laguna Azul Beach Resort along with the 6 swimming pools, a theater, a night club, 5 resaurants and a number of bars.

Varadero Cuba is a beach resort town located on Cuba’s northern coast, with it’s 20 km stretch of beaches, it is one of the largest resort areas in the Caribbean.

Filmed 100% on GoPro Hero
